The Community Cancer Institute is as beautiful on the inside as it is on the out. The upkeep of the facility falls on the environmental services team. This week’s healthcare hero is one of the techs, who makes sure the facility is always presentable and clean for patients.
Meet Cristina Roman. She’s been with Community for more than a year. She works behind the scenes, maintaining the overall cleanliness and sanitation of the healthcare facility. Cristina says one of her favorite parts of her job is interacting with patients. Those around Cristina, say she goes above and beyond in her role, going out of her way for the benefit of patients and the staff. Debra Hageman is the supervisor of guest services and describes Cristina as her rock.
Debra said, “Any request calls, pulling the trash, pulling the linen… monitoring, stocking the bathrooms. Whatever the need is, she is very good.”
Cristina commented, “All the patients, all the people that you get to meet on a daily basis, and just, when they finish their treatments, that, when I hear that bell ring it just, it always give me goosebumps just knowing that they’re moving forward and seeing them as they’ve been coming in, really weak and tired and then some of them are jumping up happy that they’re done with their treatment, that’s very rewarding for me.”
Cristina is one of many environmental services techs working to make Community Medical Centers a clean, comfortable, and safe place for patients and their families.
