Last Tuesday night was special for Fresno Christian senior Macie Thompson.
She was honored pregame on her senior night, and then went out and scored 18 points in the Eagles 8-point win over Wonderful College Prep, a win that helped the Eagles win a share of the league title for the first time in her high school career.
And, there was one more thing.
Before the game, Macie led her team in the singing of the national anthem.
Performing the anthem at different Fresno Christian sporting events, including her own, is nothing new for Macie.
She estimates she's done it about ten times during her high school career.
"I think if it was a once in a while thing, you'd be worried about focus, and what she's doing," says Fresno Christian girls basketball head coach Robert Foshee. "But she does it so often, she sings so much, it's just part of it."
"To me, it's not that weird," says Macie. "Because I've been singing it for so long."
The extraordinary thing about Macie isn't just that she does both, it's that she does both really well.
Earlier this season on the court, she became the third girl in program history to pass 1,000 career points in their career.
"I didn't know that I did it, until they pulled me out of the game, and everyone on the sideline was like, 'oh congratulations' and I was like, 'oh, I did it, that's cool.'" says Thompson.
When it comes to the singing, she's been doing that in church since the age of 3, and hasn't slowed down since.
"Three of my classes are academic (at Fresno Christian), and then the rest are all singing," says Macie. "I have worship team, choir, and ensemble."
"You have class and basketball and stuff, but when she's singing, that's what she's meant to do," says Foshee.
