The Congressional race for District 21 continues to tighten.

Republican Congressman David Valadao had a huge lead on election night over challenger TJ Cox. But mail-in ballots and provisionals have caused that lead to dwindle.

447 votes now separate the candidates, Rep. Valadao is still in the lead.

A Spokesperson on behalf of the TJ Cox campaign released the following statement:

“This recent update keeps us on track to win. We are seeing in these results the same thing that we heard on the campaign trail: voters want a representative who will work for them to improve their health care, protect their Social Security and Medicare, and fight for their families. This election has always been about working to improve the lives of hard-working families here in the Central Valley.”

The latest numbers were released by the Fresno, Kern and Kings County Election’s Office. More updates are expected next week.
