FRESNO, Calif. ( — Officials from the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday the arrest of an accused serial rapist.

Deputies say Guadalupe Gonzales, 36, of San Joaquin was booked into the Fresno County jail on charges of forcible rape, oral copulation, and sodomy. He is not eligible for bail at this time.

According to deputies, on Tuesday a woman had reported to officials at an area hospital that she had been raped. The victim told deputies that she met Gonzales through an online dating app. When the two met in person, deputies say the date became turned violent.

The woman told deputies she met Gonzalez at an apartment outside San Joaquin where he took her phone, held her at gunpoint and then forcibly raped her.

Deputies say Gonzalez then forced the victim into his car where he took her to a rural area of Fresno County and continued to sexually assault her.

Detectives say he then threw the woman’s phone in an orchard and left her stranded, leaving the scene in a tan-colored SUV.

Officials say the victim was able to call a friend who took her to a local hospital for help after the assault took place.

Tied to prior rape cases

Detectives say they have confirmed through their investigations that Gonzalez is tied to multiple unsolved rape cases that occurred in 2017 and 2019.

Fresno County Sheriff officials are now encouraging victims to come forward if they had been assaulted by Gonzalez to help officials make sure Gonzalez “is put away and doesn’t come back out on the streets to victimize anymore women” according to Lt. Brandon Pursell.
