Sixth sense? Bulldog volleyball picked sixth in MW preseason poll

Bulldog Sports

You know how Jeff Tedford turned a bad Fresno State football team in 2016 into a great Fresno State football team in 2017? Jonathan Winder did that with the volleyball team last season.

A program that had been mediocre or worse the previous five seasons was all-of-a-sudden good: 22 wins.

But the respect still isn’t there.

The Mountain West Conference released its preseason coaches’ poll on Wednesday and the Bulldogs were picked to finish in sixth place out of eleven teams.

Fresno State finished in second place last season, going 13-5 in conference games (22-11 overall). The Bulldogs also played in the National Invitational Volleyball Championship, and they beat UC Santa Barbara for their first postseason win since 1995.

Fresno State does lose nine players from that team, but five are returning including junior Reagan Leonard, a preseason all-Mountain West selection in 2019.
