Wentworth Scores in Bulldogs Win

Offensive lineman Austin Wentworth scores on a hook and ladder in Fresno State's 41-25 win over Cal Poly.
Isaiah Burse returned two punts for touchdowns, lineman Austin Wentworth scored on a hook and ladder, and Derek Carr passed big brother David on Fresno State's all-time touchdown list in the Bulldogs 41-25 win over Cal Poly.

Fresno State (2-0) played back-up ball mostly in the second half, allowing the Mustangs to make the score look a lot less lopsided than it actually was.

With David Carr in attendance, Derek passed for 205 yards (22-31) and three touchdowns. Derek leads David 71-70 in the Bulldogs all-time touchdown pass department. Derek is second all-time to Paul Pinegar, who has 84 career touchdown tosses.

The Bulldogs travel to Boulder Colorado for their first road game of the year against the Pac-12 member Colorado Buffaloes, who are also 2-0.

Former Fresno State quarterback Billy Volek was the honorary captain for the game, and received a rousing ovation when he was recognized after the first quarter. Volek led the Bulldogs to the 1999 WAC title and a Las Vegas Bowl berth, throwing for 30 touchdowns with just 3 interceptions that year.

Volek ate with the team before the game and gave the guys a pre-game pep talk.
