A couple of friends from Visalia have completed their 50th marathon together. They've been running and training together since 1994.

As the sun rises you can hear their feet hitting the pavement at a steady pace not quite in unison but always together.

Richard Rodriguez is a retired principal from Visalia. He's been running with Julie Serjack since 1994 started out as a way to lose weight. But the path led them to a series of marathons all over the country. Boston, Seattle and Big Sur just to name a few.

On Sunday, they ran the two cities marathon, completing number 50. 1310 official miles not counting the 600 practice miles leading up to each race. Family and friends celebrated with them at the finish line.

Serjack says the journey started by chance, running circles in her cul-de-sac until she met Rodriguez.

She says now they're best friends, tied to the hip. But after 50 marathons both say they'll be taking it easy, at least for a little while.

It's a daily routine, a way of life, and the foundation of their friendship.
