New Food Truck Rules

State officials changed taxing rules for food sold out of mobile food trucks.
Each week food trucks draw a big crowd to Downtown Fresno.

Tuesday, State officials changed taxing rules for food sold out of mobile food trucks.
The State Board of Equalization said vendors should include the tax in the price of the food.

State officials said the decision affects about 4 thousand mobile truck businesses. But, It will eliminate the hassle for some food truck owners to calculate the tax with each purchase.
They said it doesn't mean that they are off the hook with respect to reporting and remitting the tax to state of California.
But, they do not have to essentially charge tax on each transaction because the transaction will include a tax in the price.
The new rules will go into effect on July 1st of next year.
