Man Leads Fresno Sheriff's on High Speed Chase

Officials say deputies attempted to make a traffic stop around 4:30 a.m. at Blackstone and Bullard but the suspect failed to stop and fled from the scene.
A man was arrested after leading sheriff's deputies on a high speed chase through central Fresno on Tuesday.

Arrested was 53 year old Larry Burgin. Officials say deputies attempted to make a traffic stop involving Burgin around 4:30 a.m. at Blackstone and Bullard but he failed to stop and fled from the scene.

The pursuit apparently took place for several minutes with Burgin driving erratically at speeds up to 70 miles per hour. Burgin eventually abandoned his pickup in the area of Hoover High School and ran away on foot. He was later discovered hiding in the bushes of a residence nearby and was taken into custody without incident.

During an investigation, deputies discovered marijuana packaged for sale and evidence of identity theft inside the abandoned truck.

Burgin was arrested on charges of felony evading, felony narcotics possession, and identity theft.
