Alta Irrigation District says wild hogs caused a canal to break and flood a vineyard and homes Sunday night outside of Minkler.
"Right now, it's not looking too good for us, we could lose anywhere between from 15% to 20% of the crop," says Michael Shoffner, with Michael Shoffner Farming.
Water was sent down the canal on Sunday morning. At 6:00 p.m. part of the wall near Highway 180 and Frankwood broke. The irrigation district turned the water off at 6:30 p.m. They say the walls are lined with concrete but it wasn't enough.
"We were just getting our first crop of cantaloupe and watermelon and our corn was starting to come in," says Alice Dedmon looking at her drowning garden.
Everyone's working to pump the water out of the vineyard and garden in hopes of saving the crop.
The canal will be fixed by next week.
