Southeast Fresno Fires Latest In String of Possible Arsons

Two fires, less than five blocks and thirty minutes apart early Tuesday morning are the latest in a string of fires in the area. Each fire is being looked at as potentially set by an arsonist, says Fresno Fire.
Two fires, less than five blocks and thirty minutes apart early Tuesday morning are the latest in a string of fires in the area. Each fire is being looked at as potentially set by an arsonist, says Fresno Fire.

"Our folks are very busy right now," says Fresno Fire Battalion Chief Lawrence French.

Crews from the first fire near Gearhart and Orange had to leave to battle the blaze at Orleans and 8th, just five blocks away.

Neighbors are already antsy. They say someone has also been setting piles of trash ablaze. They want the fires to stop and whoever is responsible arrested before someone gets hurts.

"Nervous, very nervous about it because I don't wanna be at my house and have fire next to me," says Deserie Rodriguez.

In the past month there have been at least 7 fires where the cause is unknown. Any fire where the cause isn't immediately known is being looked at closely, says Deputy Fire Marshal Don MacAlpine.

MacAlpine says people can help the fire department by being more vigilant. He says anyone who sees anything suspicious should call Investigators at (559)621-4440.
