Some teens begin to hate going to school and find every way they can not to go. It is important for parents to understand that if a teen does not want to go to school, it may become increasingly difficult to keep them there. It is much easier to try to fix the problems that are causing the teen to hate school. One of the reasons that some teens skip school is because they are falling behind in classes. If your teen is not doing well in class, it may seem easier to them to skip that class, especially if they are unprepared. Unfortunately, all that does is make the problem worse. Every time class is skipped, grades will suffer even more. A better solution is to encourage your child to get extra help from a teacher, tutor, family member, or classmate. Make sure they know they are not stupid just because they have trouble with a subject. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. See a counselor for more information about school and grade problems.
