Shootout, Kidnapping, Vehicle Pursuits End With One Dead

One person is dead and another person is in critical condition after a shootout and kidnapping led to two separate vehicle pursuits.

One person is dead and another person is in critical condition after a shootout and kidnapping led to two separate vehicle pursuits, according to Deputy Chris Curtice, public information officer with the Fresno County Sheriff's Office. A third person has moderate injuries.

Curtice says shortly after 4 a.m. Thursday, deputies received a call of a kidnapping and shooting at a home in the 5100 block of S. Orange Ave. near American Avenue.

The callers reported that several people entered the house, and shots were fired between the people who entered the home and those living there.

Deputies say they could hear the shots being fired as they arrived to the house.

Two separate vehicle pursuits began from there--a 15-year-old girl who was kidnapped, was in one of those vehicles. She is now back at home with her family.

Deputies followed one vehicle, a dark colored Honda, to Community Regional Medical Center, where they detained two people at gunpoint. A third was in the back seat with gunshot wounds. Emergency personnel performed CPR, but he died a short time after.

Deputies detained the two people at CRMC for questioning.

Curtice says the second vehicle pursuit reached speeds that were too dangerous, and they stopped pursuing it.

Deputies found a second person who had been shot at the home. That person is not expected to survive, Curtice says.

Authorities are now investigating multiple crime scenes as they search for those involved in this shooting.
