Mosquito Abatement Efforts in Fresno

The Mosquito Abatement Department is stepping up their efforts to ward off mosquitoes that cause the West Nile Virus.

The Mosquito Abatement Department is stepping up their efforts to ward off mosquitoes that cause the West Nile Virus.  They sprayed neighborhoods in northwest Fresno Thursday night; three trucks covered the area north of Herndon from Sierra Sky Park to Riverside Golf Course. "We had a lot of calls from this area and then we had some dead birds come up positive and some mosquitoes. And those have been coming up hot in collections," said Tim Phillips with the Fresno Mosquito Control District.

Officials say the spray is not toxic to people or pets and it's similar in strength to foggers you can buy at the hardware store. Residents are reminded to get rid of standing water in their yards. If you have concerns about mosquitoes in your area, you can call Fresno Mosquito Abatement Department at 559-268-6565.
