Fresno police are investigating an overnight shooting that left a man dead.
It happened at the North Park Apartments just south of Fresno State.
Police say the victim is 26-year-old Anthony Marshall Brown.
Brown was originally from Southern California but had been living in Fresno the last three years, according to Sgt. David Ramsey with the Fresno Police Department.
Neighbors reported four to five gun shots just after 3 a.m.
"There were no prior calls at this residence other than the report of shots fired today. We're still looking at all the leads and possibilities at this point," Ramsey says.
Throughout the morning, a forensics team marked the evidence inside and outside the downstairs apartment.
Many neighbors tell us they slept through the shooting, even Mike Ward, whose window is only a few feet from the crime scene.
"That's why I was surprised to hear anything because most of the time, night time it's always quiet. And most of the time you have security walking through," Ward says.
When police arrived, they found Brown shot. He was responsive at the time and was taken to Community Regional Medical Center where he later died.
Several neighbors say they didn't know him well but thought he was polite.
"They seemed really friendly every time we'd pass by," says Alfred Aldrete, who lives only a few doors down from the crime scene.
"He was a cool guy, you know, respectful, speak to people. I didn't ever see no problems with him or anything like that," Ward says.
The apartment complex is just south of Fresno State where many college students and families live.
Neighbors say, although they're accustomed to the occasional rowdiness, a homicide so close to them is upsetting.
"Yeah, that doesn't happen here," says Brandyn Jones.
Police say the shooting doesn't appear to be gang related. Police have not released any suspect information.
