Robin William's death has impacted many people and one local organization says help is near. Williams taking his life is shocking to man, it can happen to anyone at any age. We got some tips on knowing the signs.
His laughter, personality and talent is what made many of us fall in love with his work, the actor and comedian died of suicide Monday. It's reported Williams was battling depression, and had a past of substance abuse,he took his life by hanging himself.In a press conference Tuesday, they announced a preliminary results, stated: "Toxicology testing will be done to determine whether there were chemical substances in his system at the time of his death."
It wasn't the way we expected the 63-year-old comedian to make the news. "Suicide is a topic that some people tend not to talk about and is the only preventable death, said Beverly Raine, Suicide Prevention Volunteer at Valley View in Fresno.
Beverly Raine of Central Valley Suicide Prevention says signs of suicide are not always visible, so it's important to pay close attention to major changes in behavior. "Becoming moody, sleeping a lot more, drinking alcohol and doing drugs a lot more."
There are many local resources that can provide help if a friend or loved one is in danger. "They can call the Central Valley Suicide Hotline and get some tips from us, we have over 600 resources in the valley and the mountain community, there is an organization called 'Know the Signs" which is a state wide campaign and it's suicideispreventable.org.
Raine says there's a stigma attached to mental illness that needs to change.It's very important to recognize these signs to help this temporary condition of feeling suicidal.
