Hazmat Situation at Local Foster Farms Plant

Hazmat crews were called out to an ammonia leak at the Fresno Foster Farms plant Saturday evening.
A Foster Farms plant in Southwest Fresno closed down for a short time Saturday after an ammonia leak.

The leak was reported late Saturday afternoon after a relief valve opened releasing ammonia into the air.

Firefighters and hazmat crews were called because ammonia in high concentrations is deadly.

The Foster Farms plant is expected to be back to normal operations by Sunday or Monday.
