Fresno State is distributing millions of additional dollars in financial aid this year.Close to $76-million dollars is being distributed to Fresno State students. "2/3 of students at Fresno State receive financial aid," said Bernard Vinoverski, Associate Vice President of Enrollment Services. That is around 14,000 students.
Vinoverski says four more million dollars is being disbursed than last year assisting 1,000 additional students.
"We don't have help from our families and financial helps out tremendously," said Akyia Westley, Financial aid student>
Students say with the cost of college and living this money is needed. "Financial aid just allows me to pay for tuition, books and pay for rent, if it wasn't for financial aid I wouldn't be able to go to college," said Moses Menchaca, Financial Aid student,
Vinoverski says the reason they've been able to do this is because of the students, I got to give credit to the students first of all for submitting their applications on a more timely basis." He says, 64-percent of students have already received their financial aid for the coming semester.
"Everyone will have their money in their bank accounts by next Monday," said Vinoverski.
"The more aid you get the less you have to work, the more you can get involved in activities," said Frank Lamas, Vice President of Student Affairs.
Lamas says the additional aid coupled with the fact that tuition has not gone up for two years represents an important milestone, it really helps in terms of their student success."
