Man Arrested for Illegal Possession of a Firearm

Officers found the man where a recent gang related shooting had occurred on July 20, 2014.
Press Release:

This will be an update regarding the arrest of subject for illegal possession of a firearm.

On Saturday, July 26, 2014, at 7:10 P.M., Officer Nathan Carr and Vince Zavala from the Fresno Police Department’s Violent Crime Impact Team were working pro-active, high visibility patrol in the area of Barton and Hedges. The officers were focusing their proactive efforts in this area due to a recent gang related shooting that occurred on July 20, 2014.

While in this area they initiated a traffic stop for an observed vehicle code violation. When they contacted the driver of the vehicle, he informed them that he was currently on searchable felony probation. The officers were going to search the vehicle and as they started removing the front passenger, Lauro Guerrero, 36 years of Fresno, he told them that he had a handgun in his pocket. The officers removed Guerrero from the vehicle and when they searched his person they located a, loaded, .38 caliber, derringer style handgun within his front pants pocket. When the officers questioned Guerrero regarding the firearm he told them he had it for protection because his friend was recently shot at 1313 N Rowell on July 20, 2014. This is the second subject in 3 days that officers Carr and Zavala have arrested for possessing a firearm related to the shooting on Rowell.

Lauro Guerrero was determined to have a prior felony conviction so he was booked into the Fresno County Jail for illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The Fresno Police Department has recently initiated the felon with a gun program that offers a $500 dollar reward for information that leads to firearm related arrests.
