Every week we honor a teacher in the valley who's making a difference. Today is our last Educator of the Week for this school season. We are proud to introduce to you Mrs. Gina Kazanjian of River Bluff Elementary.
She has been teaching sixth grade for 25 years. Mrs. Kazanjian was born and raised in the valley and went through the Fresno Unified School System. Students seem to enjoy when she taps into all that experience.
"She would tell us something she learned from past years like something students have told her," said one of her students Aaron Masih.
Over the year, she's learned patience as well and that's something her students appreciate.
"She helps us when most of my other teachers wouldn't like they say it once and won't say it again but she goes over it multiple times if we don't understand," said another one of her students Kaia Bonnette.
After more than two decades in this grade, Mrs. Kazanjian knows sixth grade is a critical time in a student's career. They're getting ready to make the transition to middle school so she tries to prepare them for that next jump.
"We promote a lot of character traits such as perseverance, caring, responsibility," she said.
She hopes they'll carry these life's foundations through middle school and beyond. What also makes Mrs. Kazanjian unique is the sense of family she creates for students. She calls her classroom a home away from home. "And let them know that they're each a very important part of the family and that we're a team."
And that makes Mrs. Kazanjian of River Bluff Elementary our Educator of the Week.
