Farmers and ranchers devastated by drought can seek federal assistance. The 2014 Farm Bill reinstated and strengthened relief programs that had expired. Ag officials say there's roughly $2.5 billion available to help our nation's ag producers. In the Valley, extremely dry conditions have left cattle without grass to graze and bees without flowers to pollinate. To make up for it, ranchers and beekeepers have been paying for expensive, alternative feed. The federal assistance won't fully compensate losses but it's expected to help keep people in business.
