The California Highway Patrol is investigating a crash involving a U-Haul truck and a limousine that injured several people Tuesday night near Reedley at Englehart and Lincoln Avenues.

The driver of the U-Haul left the scene, and the U-Haul was reported stolen, says Officer Axel Reyes, public information officer with the CHP.

Thirteen people are now recovering from minor injuries.

The U-Haul driver was heading southbound on Englehart Avenue when it veered off in a southwesterly direction and t-boned the limo that was at a stop at Lincoln Avenue, says Sgt. Jim Del Carlo with the CHP.

"[The U-Haul driver] approached the intersection here, and veered into the passenger side, as you guys can see, the passenger side of the Cadillac (limo)," Del Carlo says.

The limo belongs to the High Class Limousines company in Visalia.

"All our driver said was he got out of the vehicle once it was hit and he was going to approach them, but by the time he could fix himself, the driver and passenger of the U-Haul ran into a different car," says Gary Kalanjian, the limo company owner's son.

The driver told Kalanjian that he was in route to pick up another person to add to the passengers' group when the U-Haul struck the limo.

The 13 people had minor injuries. Two were flown to Community Regional Medical Center, but their injuries were later determined to also be minor, according to the CHP report.

"Thank God [there were] no fatalities or anything like that," Kalanjian says.

The driver of the U-Haul jumped out of the truck and into a burgundy sedan, and drove off southbound on Englehart, Del Carlo says.

Alcohol could have played a factor in the crash.

"Alcohol was in the floorboard of the U-Haul--unknown if driver was impaired," Del Carlo says.
