The Big Fresno Fair hosted it's 4th Annual Job Fair and many people starting lining up at doors before they opened.
Department supervisors are looking to hire hundreds of people fill positions for the biggest event in the Central Valley.People lined up to fill out applications for fair in October. "We've got several thousand people here who are looking for jobs," said Stacey Rianda, Fair Deputy Manager.
Department supervisors are looking to fill 50 part- time positions. Ibis Hernandez of Fresno has been looking for extra work for some time now. "Looking for any type of opportunity for work that we can get, you know especially with the way the economy is."
Rianda says with the unemployment rate in Fresno county around 12% they're trying to make jobs accessible.
It hasn't been easy for some Fresno County residents. I'm trying to find a job, I'm working for a temporary agency and I'm not getting enough hours and I have to pay my rent," said Sean Langer, applicant.
Since 2011 the annual job fair has provided many opportunities. "It's exciting, everyone gets the chance to work around here," said Meranda Garcia, applicant. Another applicant Sdynee Montgomery is applying to get experience and says it would be fun to work at the fair.
Rianda says as the fifth largest fair in the state and with attendance growing ever year they need all the help they can get for the 13-day run. "Last year our attendance was around 650,000 so it's a big event".
If you couldn't make it out today, the Big Fresno Fair is still accepting applications for the administrative offices.
