The Push for New Anti-Truancy Laws

This comes after a Kings County woman was sent to jail because her child missed more than 10% of the school year last year.
        The State Attorney General is pushing for new anti-truancy laws.
        Last fall, a Kings County woman was sent to jail because her child missed more than 10% of the school year last year.
        Attorney General Kamala Harris estimates truancy costs school districts across the state nearly one a half billion dollars.
        She's proposing a bill that would an annually report on truancy and identify which schools have programs to reduces absences.
        Another measure would require each country to create a school attendance review board.
