Angelo's Drive-In Closes Its Doors

The restaurant at Olive and Weber in Fresno is the latest casualty of the first leg of California's High Speed Rail project.
Angelo's Drive-In has been serving up burgers in Fresno since 19-54.
But, today Angelo's closed it's doors for the final time.
The restaurant at Olive and Weber is the latest casualty of the first leg of California's High Speed Rail project.
Today customers said a sad goodbye to a place many had been coming to for decades.
Since 1954 Angelo's Drive-In near Roeding Park has been a Fresno fixture.
Through upheavals that changed the nation Angelo's has been a constant presence.
Serving up juicy burgers, friendly conversation and a sense of stability in a ever changing urban landscape.
"I just wanna like save it, and then freeze it so i can have it later when i crave it," said Bob Garcia, loyal customer.
Now, Angelo's has closed it's doors for the final time.
        Falling victim to progress.
Progress in the form of high speed rail.
Soon the sound of sizzling burgers and fries will give way to the rumble of a bulldozer.
Angelo's lies in the path of the first leg of California's High Speed Rail project.
Angelo's current owners saying the buyout money is nowhere near enough to start over.
"And the money we received from the state that bought us out its not enough to start a business at this moment especially in Fresno the land is very expensive," said Kay Lim the owner.
The first segment of the project, from Fresno to Madera, as a 130-mile stretch estimated to cost $6 billion.
Other valley businesses will also be leveled to make way.
