The family of the victim of a fatal hit and run accident in Fresno are fighting for justice. They are asking the publics help identifying the driver who left John Ortega lying in the street on June 18th.

Ortega was walking on McKinley Avenue near Normal when we was struck by a car. Ortega was hospitalized in critical condition and his family took him off life support Tuesday. He died 23 hours later.

"The fact that my father was just lying in the street. I feel was not right and I would like somebody to just come forward. I don't understand how you can sleep at night," Gina Laventore, the victim's daughter said.

Today the family held a candle light vigil to remember Ortega. They retraced the steps he took the night he was hit, just two blocks from his home. His wife said he has a history of seizures and believes he may have been disoriented the night of the crash.

"There were so many people who were outside and when this accident happened and that car went into the Dee Dee's parking lot," Yvonne Laventore, the victim's wife said. "There's so many people who seen the car and them looking at the vehicle."

She hopes someone is brave enough to come forward with information.

It is believed the suspect was driving a 2001 to 2003 BMW 3 series. Either white or silver in color.

"We are not going to stop looking for who did this," Gina Laventore said. "We promised our father before he past that were going to fight and we are gong to continue to put this out there. We are not going to stop until someone comes forward or someone is caught."
