Redwood riding power of playoff "haircuts"

The Redwood High baseball team has a winning postseason formula, and part of it involves a razor and some hair dye.

The Rangers are the top seed in the Division II baseball playoffs, and are once again sporting some interesting playoff hairdos for good luck.

It's a tradition the team started before the playoffs in 2015, and the superstition has yet to fail, as the Rangers have won the last two Central section Division II titles.

"Last year it helped me out," said senior Gunnar Haskill, who described his new-look as the 'Mohawk Duck.'  "I had a great postseason (in 2016), so hopefully it works (again)."

Other players also went with mohawk themes, while others chose to dye their hair white, but junior Will Miranda completely shaved the top off.

"Everybody's gonna ask me, 'why would you get this?'" said Miranda.  "And you know what, everybody loves baseball here, everybody on the team loves baseball.  I love baseball.  We all love baseball, so we gotta go all out for the playoffs."

The Rangers had a first-round bye, but will open the playoffs Friday at home against 8th-seeded Hanford West.
