Coral Gables, FL (Sports Network) - Miami-Florida men's basketball coach Jim Larranaga has been rewarded with a long-term contract extension that will keep him with the Hurricanes through the 2021-22 season.

Larranaga has spent the past two seasons at Miami and guided the Hurricanes to their best season in 2012-13 with a record of 29-7, a regular-season ACC championship and an ACC Tournament title.

Miami was ranked as high as No. 2 during the season and earned a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Hurricanes' magical year included a 27-point win over a top-ranked Duke squad in January and an ACC Tournament title game win over North Carolina. It ended with a school-record 29 wins following a loss to Marquette in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tourney.

"We want to build a tradition of excellence at the University of Miami," said Larranaga in a statement Thursday. "The most important aspect for me and our staff is to create consistency. With this extension the university has shown its commitment, and I am grateful for its confidence in our program."

The Hurricanes are 49-20 in Larranaga's two seasons. He has also been a head coach at George Mason, Bowling Green and American International College, and owns a career mark of 519-353 in 29 seasons.

Larranaga left George Mason in the spring of 2011 as the school's all-time wins leader, going 273-164 during a 14-year tenure highlighted by a memorable and surprising Final Four run in 2006.
