UC Merced student confirmed dead in Oakland fire

Family says Jennifer Mendiola died from smoke inhalation.

Wednesday officials announced they have completely searched the Oakland warehouse that burst into flames Friday night.
 
A total of 36 people died in that building known as the Ghost Ship. 
 
Days ago word got out that Jennifer Mendiola, was in that warehouse, was missing.
 
Wednesday her family got a call from the coroners office explaining she had passed away from smoke inhalation.
 
Mendiola was a masters of art student at UC Merced.
 
The university released a statement days ago stating she was one of the missing.
 
The 35-year-old was inside the Oakland warehouse with her boyfriend when the building ignited. 
 
Mendiola and her boyfriend both died. 
 
Her  parents spoke on camera saying they are having a hard time knowing the circumstances around her death, but believe she had a short and great life. 
 
"I do feel a finality that her life was full and that she had a wonderful varied life accomplishing many of her goals in her life," says her mother, Janey Barmby. 
 
Mendiola's sister-in-law, Ana Mendiola, released a statement Wednesday:
 
"Our beautiful Jennifer has been identified. She died without suffering. She was unconscious in 15 minutes and was not touched by the fire. She died of smoke inhalation."
