FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno County Sheriff's Office disclosed Saturday the couple involved in the boating accident at Pine Flat Lake are the parents of Uber CEO Travis Kalanick.
His mother, Bonnie, died at the lake, while his father was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno. The latest reports indicate he is in serious condition.
Travis co-founded the popular rideshare app in 2009 and became CEO of it in 2010. The company gave their condolences to their CEO, which reads:
Last night Travis and his family suffered an unspeakable tragedy. His mother passed away and his father is in serious condition. Our thoughts and prayers are with Travis and his family in this heartbreaking time.
Travis isn't the only Kalanick son grieving this situation. Colin Kalanick is a Fresno firefighter, being one of the firefighters involved in the daring rescue of Capt. Pete Dern when he fell through a roof during a fire.
He's served with the Fresno Fire Department for the last 14 years.
The Fresno County Sheriff's Office also said the dog on the boat during the accident is ok. It is being cared for by friends and family.
