FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno police are looking for the people responsible for shooting and killing two men in southeast Fresno. The victims were shot about an hour apart.
Police responded to the first shooting at White and Backer Avenues around 12:46 a.m. and found Manuel Lopez, 22, suffered a gunshot wound. He was transported to Community Regional Medical Center (CRMC) and died from his injuries.
About an hour later, police responded to the next shooting at Willow and Inyo Avenues and found Paul Cerrato, 40, with multiple gunshot wounds. He also died when taken to CRMC.
"The shootings were in close proximity in regards to locations and times. However, we have not determined whether or not these shootings were related," said Sgt. Andre Benson.
Carmelita Cabrera lives a couple houses down from the intersection Cerrato was shot at. She said she heard the moments before he was shot.
"You could hear it from our house, the screaming, the guy was saying not to shoot him," said Cabrera. "It's really sad."
While it's sad, for her it's not surprising. This is the first time someone has been murdered near her home to her knowledge, but she said she hears a lot of shootings in her neighborhood.
She also said many people run through her street holding clothes stolen from a nearby store. Cabrera also said people often speed through her street.
"I have five grandkids and I don't ever let them in the front. They're always in the back," said Cabrera. "It's really dangerous."
So dangerous for her, that it's hit a breaking point.
"I'm trying to move out of here," she said.
The police have no suspects yet in either shooting. They're still looking for any witnesses or information that can help lead them to those responsible.
