Armed robbery suspect in custody after high speed chase in Fresno, Madera counties

A suspect in an armed robbery is in custody after a high-speed chase took officers from multiple agency all over Fresno and Madera counties.

The chase started around 4:15 p.m. near Clovis Avenue and Kings Canyon Road and took just over an hour as the man used Highways 168 and 99 to evade officers.

John Barajas, 35, was wanted in four brazen robberies that took place just over a week. The heists spanned from Fresno to Chowchilla.

Barajas pointed a gun at pursuing officers, police said.

The chase ended shortly after officers deployed spike strips on Highway 99 near Avenue 17.

Police said he had a gun in his hand, but he threw the gun as he was taken into custody, police said.
