Sheriff's Office: Man propositions teen girl near Fresno middle school

He offered to pay her for a massage, the Sheriff's Office said

FRESNO, California - The Fresno County Sheriff's Office is warning the public to be on the lookout after a man propositioned a teen girl near a Fresno middle school on Friday.

Around noon, a teenage girl was walking near the area of Wawona Middle School. While at the intersection of Holland and Thorne avenues, a man in a car pulled up next to her and offered to pay her money if she would give him a massage, the Sheriff's Office said.

The girl told him no and walked away to the school where she reported to office staff what had happened.

The man immediately drove out of the area, the Sheriff's Office said.

The man is described as being in his 40s or 50s, clean shaven, with brown eyes and had salt and pepper colored hair, which was pulled back into a ponytail, the Sheriff's Office said. His car is believed to be a Mercedes that is in good condition and is silver or gray in color.

The Sheriff's Office recommends people -- especially children -- to take the following steps to ensure their safety:

This may include the following preventative and reactive measures:

  • Be aware of your surroundings
  • Walk in groups
  • Using paths that are well-traveled and well-lit
  • Run away if necessary
  • Yell for help if necessary
  • Report suspicious activity immediately to an adult, school staff member or law enforcement officer
  • Call 911 if necessary
