Fresno, Calif. - A suspect is on the run after shooting and killing a security guard outside a Motel 6.
It happened at the one located on Blackstone and Ashlan avenues.
Chief Jerry Dyer with the Fresno Police Department says a female staying at the motel was visited by a man who did not check in at the front desk Thursday night.
Dyer says a security guard got into an altercation with two and died after the man pulled out a gun and fired multiple rounds.
Cleve Jones stayed in the room where one of the bullets got stuck in the door.
"My daughter and my fiance were in there eating," said Jones, who was visiting from Santa Maria to see his daughter who attends city college.
Jones says according to police if the bullet would've been an inch to the left it would not have got stuck in the door and instead would have hit his daughter.
"I thank God she didn't get hit," said Jones.
His daughter didn't get hit, but police say a security guard was shot and killed.
"He responded to assist the two security guards that were working. When he arrived he got into a confrontation with a black male in his early 20s whot shot him multiple times and fled on foot westbound," said Jerardo Chamalbide with the Fresno Police Department.
A passerby saw the shooting and pulled over to the Motel 6 parking lot.
"We seen a man with a badge and he was pretty much out," said the witness who did not want to be identified.
Another man who did not want to be identified was in room nearby the shooting he says he's concerned crime in the city.
"It is starting to become a constant thing in Fresno," said the unidentified man.
For Jones his prayers go out to the family of the deceased, and he thanks God none of the bullets hit his daughter.
"That's daddy's little girl, my angel man," said Jones.
