LEMOORE, California - Officials are investigating after a 16-year-old student at Lemoore High School was found to be in possession of a firearm at school. Officials say the gun was located inside his backpack.
Through the Lemoore Police Department's investigation they found the pistol to be illegal and also have a high capacity magazine. The student was taken into custody without incident.
During a search of the student's house police located additional firearms. Police say one of firearms was confiscated from the home, the other from a car belonging to the student's father, 47-year-old David Escalera Sr.
They say the firearms inside the house was unsecured and readily accessible. One of the seized firearms also had altered serial numbers.
Police arrested David Escalera Sr. on charges of felony child endangerment, criminal storage of a firearm, possession of an assault weapon, and possession of a firearm with altered serial numbers.
He was booked in the Kings County Jail with bail set at $95,000. The student was arrested and booked into the Kings County Juvenile Center.
Police say through their investigation, it showed the student did not make any threats toward the school or others.
