PG&E reports more than 5,000 customers without power in Clovis/Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. - With the heat ramping up, thousands were left without power throughout Fresno and Clovis after an underground equipment failure Sunday.

Around 10 p.m., power started returning to the streets affected by the outage. PG&E reports some of the outages began as early as 5:30 p.m., in various parts of northern Fresno and Clovis.

A company spokesperson said the outage was caused by an increased demand on their system. Given Sunday's heat, more people probably had their AC units on, which caused an overload on the line and resulted in the outages.

To try and prevent this in the future, PG&E recommends to conserve energy during peak hours. For example, turn on your ceiling fan instead of the AC.
