NASA set to make history with West Coast launch

LOMPOC, California - NASA is set to make history early Saturday morning with a rocket launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California that is the first of its kind.

The Atlas V rocket which will carry InSight into space is the first interplanetary launch from the West Coast.

InSight is going to Mars.

Generally interplanetary launches are done from Florida because its position helps rockets get to where they're going, but the sheer might of the Atlas V rocket hopes to make up for that and make it possible for Vandenberg to be a place where more interplanetary launches can be done.
