The suspects remain on the loose. Now Leonardo's mother Veronica San Juan is making a public appeal in the hopes someone will come forward to bring her son's killer to justice.
" Its really hard nobody should go through this.  He was an innocent little boy. He was a very friendly caring little boy. He cared for everybody. Even if he didn't know them like at school, he would , if there was someone new,  He would be the first one to go and be friends. He played with everybody. He loved to read. And he took him I guess into the laundromat and I guess they were going to come home.  And on the way home someone went right next to him and shot him.  My baby was almost home.  He was really close to my home. My baby was coming .. And these people took his life",  San Juan said in an emotional interview with Eyewitness News.
Madera Police Chief Dino Lawson says his department will do everything in it's power to make an arrest as soon as possible.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the Madera Police Department, or Crime Stoppers at 498-STOP. You can remain anonymous and could receive a large cash reward.
