STANISLAUS COUNTY, California - Ceres officers are investigating a homicide after officials say a man shot and killed his mother in their home.
Police say 28-year-old Matthew Nicholson was in his bedroom playing video games and got upset and started yelling. When the victim, his mother, went in to check on him, Nicholson began arguing with her and he ended up breaking the headset to his video game. He then blamed his mom for the broken headset and threatened to kill her and his father.
Nicholson then retrieved a handgun from the home and fired two rounds into the wall and then shot his mother in the head. The 68-year-old victim was transported to an area hospital where she later died.
At the time of the shooting Nicholson's father tried wrestling the firearm away from him. Nicholson then fled the house in a vehicle and went to a relative's house in the city of Riverbank.
Officers were quickly able to locate his vehicle during a high risk vehicle stop in Riverbank. He was arrested and taken into custody. He was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail where he is being held without bail.
