Man killed in Planada triple shooting identified

One other person is dead, and another remains hospitalized

FRESNO, California - One of the men killed in Planada on Thursday has been identified.

The Merced County Sheriff's Office dispatched deputies to the area of Highway 140 and Plainsburg Road in Planada around 8 p.m. regarding three people being shot.

They arrived on scene to find one man dead and two others suffering gunshot wounds.

The two were transported to an area hospital for treatment, but one died. He was identified as Pedro Lua, 27.

The shootings were gang related, the Sheriff's Office said. It began as a physical altercation and resulted in deadly force with firearms.

The other two victims have not been identified.
