Man arrested for double murder in Orange Cove

ORANGE COVE, Calif. - The Fresno County Sheriff's Office has arrested a double murder suspect in Orange Cove.

Deputies said Jairo Mancilla, 25, shot and killed two men along a bike trail near Railroad and 11th Street.

"It's good they finally caught the killer," said Juan Valadez, a clerk at Citrus Mini Mart.

Alex Esquivel, 27, and Javier Lizaola, 24, were shot and killed on March 10th. Two kids walking home from the store found the men injured on the ground, and ran home to tell relatives.

Valadez said one of the victims was a regular. "I knew Javier, he stopped by time to time. He was really quiet, kind of too himself. Alex, I never really met," said Valadez.

Valadez said customers told him about several raids in Orange Cove and that detectives caught the accused killer.

"Just knowing that that kind of stuff happens around here, it's you know, gets you on the tip of your toes you know," said Valadez.

Valadez said Orange Cove has its fair share of crime like any town but said it's still a good place to call home. "I've lived here for 18 or 19 years, it hasn't been that violent. Just one thing leads to another, leads to another, eventually it just goes down hill," he said.

Mancilla is in the Fresno County Jail with no bail. The sheriff's office is asking anyone with information to call them or Crime Stoppers at 498-STOP.
