Man arrested after police say he fired at a building

MERCED, Calif. - A man is in jail tonight after Merced police said he shot at an occupied building.

It happened Friday night around 9 p.m. near 11th & G Street in Merced.

Several officers were walking the neighborhood when they heard three gunshots and saw a vehicle take off without headlights on.

Officers stopped the vehicle a couple of blocks away. Police said the driver, Jose Pimentel, 47, ran away but was later captured.

Officers found a sawed off rifle in Pimentel's vehicle and evidence in the alley that Pimentel had fired the gun recklessly.

He was booked into jail on several felony gun charges.
