FRESNO, Calif. - A man is accused of stabbing his mother multiple times with a knife Saturday night.
Fresno Police said around 8:30pm near Thorne and San Joaquin, a 37-year old man allegedly came up behind his 56-year old mother as she was cooking dinner, and began stabbing her. Police said the victim is in stable condition in the hospital. They said she was stabbed multiple times in the neck and shoulder, and investigators said she tried to fight her son off.
Police are not releasing the suspect's name at this point, but say he attacked his mother with a knife, and his sister was also in the room. The sister allegedly tried to help protect her mom.
Investigators said the mother ran out of the house across the street to a neighbor to try to get a ride to the hospital. When officers arrived, they arrested the son without incident.
Sgt. Gerardo Chamalbide said, "The motive at this time, we don't know what the motive is. I was told that he's got some mental issues and that don't know, we don't have no idea. We're still in the process of trying to figure out why he stabbed his mom."
The mother allegedly told police she had been having issues with her son for a while.
The suspect faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon.
