Vidak Unoffically Wins State Senator Seat

Republican Andy Vidak appears to have defeated Democrat Leticia Perez in the race for California's 16th District Senate seat.
According to the California Secretary of State website, Republican Andy Vidak has won the senate seat for California’s 16th district.  The position serves residents in parts of Fresno, Kings, Tulare and Kern counties.

Vidak, a cherry grower from Hanford, captured 52% of the vote.  He needed 50% plus one vote in order to win the race outright and avoid a runoff election in July.

Leticia Perez, a Kern County supervisor, was Vidak’s biggest challenger.  The democrat finished with 42% of the vote.

Vidak’s priorities are to reduce taxes and regulations, as well as create reliable and affordable sources of water and energy in the Central Valley.

“I have created jobs and run small businesses.  I understand those challenges and that makes me very suited for people back to work in this district and that’s what we need to do,” said Andy Vidak, R-Hanford.

The Secretary of State still needs to certify the election in order to make the results official.
