Thousands of Prisoners Will Soon be Released

The Supreme Court ordered that thousands of prisoners will need to be released from California prisons
Thousands of prisoners will soon be released back onto the streets.

Late Friday the U.S. Supreme Court rejected a request to delay the release of ten-thousand more inmates from California prisons.

The release is designed to ease overcrowding in state prisons.

Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims called it a "horrible plan".

"We are already struggling with realigning or dealing with the realignment that's already occurred. Now we have to make a plan to handle an additional workload," says Sheriff Margaret Mims.

The prison realignment she's referring to shifted thousands of inmates from state prisons to county jails.

Many jails are now full and are being forced to release prisoners back into our communities.
