Suspect in custody for stabbing and arson

Fresno police arrested 32-year-old Adrian Verdugo, who they believe stabbed his girlfriend and set her apartment on fire.
Police believe the suspect in a stabbing may also be responsible for a 2-alarm fire.

32-year-old Adrian Verdugo is in the Fresno County Jail, accused of attacking his girlfriend.

Police responded to reports of a domestic disturbance at an apartment near Belmont and Abby on Monday morning.

Police found a woman suffering from multiple stab wounds to the upper torso. She is expected to survive.

Later that same day, firefighters had to put out a fire at the same apartment and investigators believe it was intentionally set.

Neighbors spotted the suspect trying to leave but held him until officers came back and took him into custody.

Apartment manager John Hames said, "There was a stabbing this morning and then she went to the hospital and the next thing I know, he comes back after doing that to her, trying to destroy the apartment."

The fire forced ten people out of their homes.
