A woman who police call a "habitual thief" was arrested again Thursday afternoon. Sarah Magnolia has gone to jail 35 times in one year alone. Officers say she was caught stealing from peoples' cars in downtown Fresno.
Magnolia has been essentially beating the system for a year because every time she's arrested she gets out of jail within hours. Police hope things will be different this time around.
A resident of the Iron Bird Lofts called police when he saw Magnolia going through someone's car parked along the street. Officers say when they found her, she had items with her that she'd allegedly stolen from other cars. Magnolia is notorious in downtown Fresno and the Tower District for taking things out of unlocked cars. Last week police posted her picture on Facebook. Her story has since received a lot of attention, in part because she get let out of jail for overcrowding within hours of being booked.
The woman who's car she was going through today is glad Magnolia has been caught.
"I'm lucky she didn't steal my car. I'm lucky somebody said something," said Ashley Rendon.
Police hope to get Magnolia in front of a judge tomorrow before she's released from jail. CBS47 will continue following this story to see what happens next.
