Overnight 3-alarm fire at Barstow & Minnewawa

Eight families were forced out of their homes when a fire swept through an apartment complex in Clovis around 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
Eight families were forced out of their homes when a fire swept through an apartment complex in Clovis around 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

The apartments are located near Barstow and Minnewawa.

Fire crews responding said there was extensive fire and smoke and called for additional resources.

The fire spread from one 4-unit building to another 4-unit building and all 8 units were destroyed.

One resident was injured and taken to Community Regional Medical Center.

A firefighter was also injured when he stepped on a nail that punctured his protective equipment. He was treated at the scene.

The Red Cross is helping the 14 adults and several children displaced by the fire.

Damage is estimated at $1 million.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
