The tornado has been upgraded to an EF5, the highest rating the National Weather Service assigns to the strength of tornadoes. The EF5 classification means winds exceeded 200 miles per hour.

The twister caused extensive damage to to the town of Moore, Oklahoma and killed at least 24 people, including 8 children.

More than 300 people were injured and dozens remain in the hospital.
