Outside the Supreme Court on Tuesday morning, demonstrators for and against gay marriage crowd Capitol Hill. In the social media world, which has become a major part of society, images of equal signs flood Leon Velasco's Facebook page. The Fresno man is a gay father of two and can attest to the prejudices against children of gay parents.
"They had a hard time growing up, befriending children, and joining anything from school sports to girl scouts," said Velasco.
Same sex marriage advocates say prohibiting same sex marriage is not fair to children of gay couples. But those on the other side say they also want what's best for kids.
"We just want children to thrive, and they thrive in a stable environment. A stable environment is a mom and dad," said Fred Vanderhoof, a Prop 8 advocate.
Inside the supreme court Tuesday, justices hear and 80 minute debate on California's Prop 8. They gave no indication which side the court leans, but some think it won't rule at all and will send it back to the states to figure out.
A demonstration for marriage equality is at the Federal Courthouse on Tuesday from 4-6pm.
